The first photo is the before photo.  The after photo shows what is called the "V-stokes" in the carpet.  These V-strokes are caused after the hot water in injected into the carpet fibers and the carpet wand extracts the dirty water out.  As the technician moves the carpet want, the vacuum action created V-strokes.
