Home Renovation Exposes Asbestos Covered Ductwork

Home renovations are very common during the spring and summer months.  Removing walls or replacing flooring can cause some unforeseen issues as this homeowner found out during a remodeling project.  A wall separating two rooms was removed to expand their living room was taken down and some duct work with a white paper-like material for insulation was discovered.  The homeowner contacted SERVPRO of SW Waukesha County for material testing and removal.  A sample of the insulation was taken to an accredited lab for analysis and it was found to contain chrysotile, a very common form of asbestos.  The ducts were safely removed by a crew of WI state certified asbestos abatement technicians and the renovation project was able to move forward!
